In times past, dream interpretation was taken much more seriously since dreams were considered to foretell the future.
A well known example is found in the Bible with the dream of the seven fat cows and seven skinny cows.
This was interpreted as a warning of seven years of bountiful harvest which were to be followed with seven years of famine.
Because of this dream, a plan was devised to store food during the time of plenty so there would be reserves to draw from during the famine.
